Just a few kilometers from Casa <\/a>Fofo<\/a><\/strong>, the Pacific Coast offers a string of beaches that are, however, quite different from one another.After our little Playa La Ensenada<\/strong><\/a>\u2014which is within walking distance of Casa Fofo\u2014let\u2019s head a little further west this time to explore Playa Santa Clara and Playa Farall\u00f3n<\/strong>.They are relatively close to each other, but their atmospheres aren’t quite the same.Santa Clara<\/strong> retains a simple, family-friendly atmosphere, with its ranchos and small restaurants right on the beach. Farall\u00f3n<\/strong>, for its part, offers a striking contrast between the old fishing village\u2014with its independent restaurants and beach bars\u2014and the massive hotel complexes that have sprung up along part of its coastline.Two beaches to explore during your stay with us\u2014though not necessarily for the same reasons.<\/p>\n\n

\ud83c\udf0a Playa Santa Clara: a large beach where you can simply enjoy the Pacific Ocean<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

From Casa Fofo, it takes about 25 to 30 minutes by car<\/strong> to get to Playa Santa Clara, depending on traffic.The beach is long and wide, with sand that is relatively light in color for the Panamanian Pacific coast. Along the shore, you\u2019ll find palm-leaf huts<\/strong>, hammocks, a few umbrellas, and several small establishments where you can eat or have a drink while looking out at the ocean.The atmosphere is family-friendly, local, and laid-back<\/strong>. On weekdays, Santa Clara can be very quiet. On weekends and Panamanian holidays, however, the scene changes: families arrive to spend the day at the beach, and the atmosphere becomes much livelier. <\/p>\n\n

\ud83c\udf64 Where can you eat and have a drink in Santa Clara?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

And that’s exactly one of the charms of Santa Clara: you don’t have to head back to the Pan-American Highway to eat.<\/p>\n\n

The place is simple and no-frills, and best of all, you can eat with your feet practically in the sand<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Las Veraneras<\/strong> is part of a small hotel, but unlike some of the larger resorts in the area, even people who aren\u2019t staying there can enjoy the restaurant and the beach.Day passes<\/strong> are available, which include access to restrooms and showers, as well as the option to rent a cabana.This can be a good option if you want to spend several hours relaxing in Santa Clara.<\/p>\n\n

\ud83d\udca1 Good to know<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Some designated access points, parking lots, beach huts, chairs, or facilities require a fee.However, this does not mean that the beach is private. Panamanian beaches are public property<\/strong>, but a business may, of course, charge a fee for the use of its parking lot or facilities.<\/p>\n\n

\ud83c\udfdd\ufe0f Playa Farall\u00f3n: a beach nestled between a small town and large resorts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Continue west for a few more minutes, and you’ll arrive at Playa Farall\u00f3n<\/strong>.From Casa Fofo, allow about 30 to 35 minutes by car<\/strong>, depending on traffic.Farall\u00f3n was originally a fishing village. Then large-scale tourism projects came along and profoundly transformed part of the area. Today, this very long beach has two quite surprising sides<\/strong>.On one side, the village and its small, independent establishments, where you can eat, have a cocktail, and spend the day at the beach.On the other, the large apartment buildings and massive tourist resorts that occupy part of the coastline.<\/p>\n\n

\ud83c\udfe8 A public beach in front of private hotels<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

This is probably the most important point to understand before going to Farall\u00f3n.When you see some of the large hotel complexes built right on the oceanfront, you might easily think that part of Playa Farall\u00f3n is private and reserved for hotel guests<\/strong>.That\u2019s not exactly the case.<\/p>\n\n

The beach itself is public.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

However, hotel grounds\u2014including their swimming pools, gardens, lounge chairs, restaurants, and access paths\u2014are private property. A hotel is therefore not required to allow you to cross its property simply because the beach behind it is public. As a result<\/span>, some parts of the coastline may seem as though they are privatized because they are much harder to reach from the road.For a day trip to Farall\u00f3n, the easiest option is to use the public access points on the village side<\/strong>.And that’s actually great news, because that’s exactly where many of the nicest places to eat or have a drink are located.<\/p>\n\n

This is probably the part of Farall\u00f3n most worth exploring if you’re just spending the day there from Casa Fofo.There are several restaurants and beach bars here that aren’t affiliated with the big resorts<\/strong>, located right on the beach or just a few meters from the water.<\/p>\n\n

\ud83c\udf34 Pipa’s Beach<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Pipa’s Beach<\/strong> is probably one of the best-known spots in Playa Farall\u00f3n.The restaurant and bar are located right on the Pacific coast. Yes\u2026 but with one small caveat.We\u2019re not in Ibiza. \ud83d\ude04There is indeed live music, DJs, and various entertainment options<\/strong>, especially around Farall\u00f3n and particularly on weekends, holidays, and during vacation periods.But the schedules change regularly.In Farall\u00f3n, Pipa’s Beach, Mia Beach, Nico’s Beach, and Coko Blue<\/strong> are among the spots to check out if you’re looking for a lively musical atmosphere.In Santa Clara, Tortugas Beach Bar & Grill<\/strong> may also offer entertainment.So it’s best to check their social media or contact them the same day or the day before<\/strong>.Because in Panama, a party might pop up on Instagram on Friday afternoon for Saturday night. \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n
