In San Carlos, that&#8217;s exactly what happens between Playa El Palmar and Playa La Ensenada.<br\/>Two beaches side by side.<br\/>Two totally different energies.<br\/>One attracts surfers, waves, black sand-covered boards and salty sunsets.<br\/>The other invites more calm, families, leisurely swims and long, slow days facing the Pacific. <br\/><br\/>And honestly&#8230; it&#8217;s this contrast that makes this part of Panam\u00e1 Oeste so pleasant to live in.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-nbsp-ou-se-trouvent-playa-el-palmar-et-playa-la-ensenada\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udccd Where are Playa El Palmar and Playa La Ensenada?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udccc <strong>Precise location:<\/strong> San Carlos, Pacific coast of Panama<br\/>\ud83d\udccd <strong>Region:<\/strong> Panam\u00e1 Oeste<br\/>\ud83c\udfe1 <strong>Distance from Casa Fofo :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Playa La Ensenada: about 3 to 5 minutes&#8217; walk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Playa El Palmar: about 5 to 8 minutes&#8217; walk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two beaches are very close to each other.<br\/>You can easily visit both in the same day. Just walk along the beach, and cross a small river to go from one beach to the other.<br\/>But once you&#8217;re there&#8230; you&#8217;ll quickly realize that they don&#8217;t have the same personality at all. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video height=\"480\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 832 \/ 480;\" width=\"832\" autoplay=\"\" controls=\"\" loop=\"\" muted=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2-El-Palmar-Entre-2-plages.mp4\" playsinline=\"\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-nbsp-playa-el-palmar-la-plage-du-surf-et-du-mouvement\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83c\udf0a Playa El Palmar: the beach of surf and movement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Playa El Palmar is probably one of the region&#8217;s best-known surf beaches.<br\/>Here, the sand is darker. Volcanic. The Pacific appears more raw. More alive.<br\/>The waves arrive with regularity, especially during the green season, between May and October.<br\/>We come across :   <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>surf schools,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>barefoot travelers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vans,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>planks leaning against the palm trees,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>open-air caf\u00e9s facing the ocean,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and the slightly bohemian atmosphere that many people seek in Panama.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even when you&#8217;re not surfing, there&#8217;s something very pleasant about this beach.<br\/>The sound of the waves. The wind. And best of all: they&#8217;re suitable for all levels. Beginners can take their first lessons. More advanced surfers will also find more technical areas, depending on the tides and swells.   <br\/><br\/>The rainy season transforms the beach in particular. The Pacific becomes more powerful. Swells from the south sometimes bring very fine conditions.  <br\/><br\/>And even for those who don&#8217;t surf&#8230; watching the silhouettes glide across the water at sunset is part of the show.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-nbsp-une-ambiance-plus-touristique-mais-encore-detendue\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u2615 A more touristy atmosphere&#8230; but still relaxed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El Palmar remains a tourist destination. But in a good way. You&#8217;ll find :  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a few coffees,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>simple restaurants,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>small accommodations,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>surf schools,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a few beach bars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing huge. Nothing excessively luxurious. We have already described it in the article bearing its name.<br\/>There&#8230; the energy changes immediately. The sea often becomes calmer. The atmosphere slows down. You can hear families, children, birds&#8230; more than the powerful waves of the surf.<br\/>This is a beach where many Panamanians simply come to spend the day. Buy fish. To swim.       Chatting under a ranchito.  <br\/>Watching children play in the water.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-nbsp-deux-plages-deux-facons-de-vivre-le-pacifique\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83c\udf05 Two beaches, two ways to experience the Pacific<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s probably what we love most about this region.<br\/>In the morning, you can go and watch the waves at El Palmar. <br\/>Watch the surfers.<br\/>Then finish the afternoon at La Ensenada with a quiet swim and a simple picnic by the sea.<br\/><br\/>All this&#8230; just a few minutes away.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"h-nbsp-la-saison-verte-change-completement-les-paysages\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83c\udf3f The green season completely changes the landscape<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between May and November, the region becomes extremely green.<br\/>The mountains around San Carlos are covered in mist. The sunsets are sometimes incredible. And the beaches change too:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>El Palmar becomes more dynamic,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the waves are getting bigger,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>surfing becomes even more interesting,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>while La Ensenada often retains its quieter side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contrary to popular belief, the rainy season in Panama is not a permanent disaster. It often rains mostly at the end of the day, especially here in Arco Seco. <br\/><br\/>And the rest of the time&#8230; the landscape becomes almost tropical in excess.
