{"id":31213,"date":"2026-05-24T09:32:50","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T14:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casafofo.com\/?p=31213"},"modified":"2026-07-11T06:53:15","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T11:53:15","slug":"how-casa-fofo-guesthouse-came-into-being","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casafofo.com\/en\/how-casa-fofo-guesthouse-came-into-being\/","title":{"rendered":"How Casa Fofo GuestHouse was born"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video alignfull\"><video height=\"576\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1024 \/ 576;\" width=\"1024\" autoplay=\"\" controls=\"\" loop=\"\" muted=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Article-6-Casa-Fofo-video.mp4\" playsinline=\"\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-comment-casa-fofo-guesthouse-est-nee\">How Casa Fofo GuestHouse was born<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes big life changes start out extremely simple.<br\/>In our case, it all began&#8230; with fresh fish. \ud83d\udc1f<br\/><br\/>In October 2022, as I was on my way to Playa Ensenada in San Carlos to buy fish directly from the fishermen, something caught my eye.<br\/><br\/>About 200 meters from the beach, there was a house with a &#8220;Se vende&#8221; sign.<br\/>For sale.<br\/>I contacted the estate agency and arranged a viewing.<br\/><br\/>And then&#8230; I liked what I saw.<br\/>There was something.<br\/>A potential to do what we had planned.<br\/><br\/>When my husband Jack returned from Switzerland, we took another tour together.<br\/><br\/>Then we decided to buy this house.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nbsp-les-cles-l-avant-veille-de-mon-anniversaire\"><strong>\ud83c\udfe1<\/strong><strong> The keys&#8230; the day before my birthday<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We received the keys on Sunday, April 2, 2023.<br\/>On April 3, we began renovating the house.<br\/>And then&#8230; things got really complicated.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"774\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-les-cles.jpeg?resize=1024%2C774&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31204\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.323025514682978;width:409px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-les-cles.jpeg?resize=1024%2C774&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-les-cles.jpeg?resize=300%2C227&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-les-cles.jpeg?resize=768%2C581&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-les-cles.jpeg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nbsp-les-travaux-et-la-douche-froide\"><strong>\ud83d\udd28<\/strong><strong> The work&#8230; and the cold shower<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had entrusted the renovations to a construction company whose boss was a so-called friend.<br\/><br\/>On paper, this seemed reassuring.<br\/>In reality&#8230; much less so.<br\/><br\/>The work was extremely poorly done, and we had to face the facts: we&#8217;d been completely ripped off. Both financially and amicably. And that hurts.  <br\/><br\/>It was a really difficult time:<br\/>* frustration,<br\/>* anger,<br\/>* fatigue,<br\/>* misunderstandings,<br\/>* and a lot of stress.<br\/><br\/>We were very unhappy with the result and parted angry.<br\/><br\/>With hindsight, that&#8217;s part of the adventure too.<br\/>When you change your life completely and build a project in another country, everything can&#8217;t be perfect.<br\/>And sometimes you have to learn&#8230; very quickly.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nbsp-malgre-tout-le-projet-continue\"><strong>\ud83c\udf3f<\/strong><strong> Despite everything, the project continues<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if everything wasn&#8217;t as we&#8217;d imagined, the house was still viable.<br\/>So we moved in as planned at the end of August 2023, into our new home in San Carlos.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-emenagement-1024x768.jpeg?resize=1024%2C768&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31202\" style=\"width:415px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-emenagement.jpeg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-emenagement.jpeg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-emenagement.jpeg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-emenagement.jpeg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nbsp-les-casitas-enfin-le-projet-prend-forme\"><strong>\ud83c\udfe0<\/strong><strong> Casitas: the project finally takes shape<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then we launched the second major stage of the project:<br\/>the construction of the casitas and our living project: &#8220;La GuestHouse&#8221;.<br\/><br\/>And this time, the story was totally different.<br\/><br\/>We worked with a Panamanian construction company run by an absolutely adorable, competent gentleman who is passionate about his work.<em>(We&#8217;ll be calling on him again in the future for other jobs).<\/em><br\/><br\/>Work began in November 2023.<br\/>And, for the first time in a long time, we really felt that our project was coming to life exactly as we had imagined it.<br\/><br\/>Little by little, the casitas emerged from the ground.<br\/>And they were exactly as we wanted them:<br\/>* simple,<br\/>* warm,<br\/>* comfortable,<br\/>* and designed to make people feel really good.<br\/><br\/>Work was completed in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/casafofo.com\/en\/our-casitas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See Casitas<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"765\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-Construction-des-casitas.jpeg?resize=1024%2C765&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31203\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.33856688536802;width:421px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-Construction-des-casitas.jpeg?resize=1024%2C765&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-Construction-des-casitas.jpeg?resize=300%2C224&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-Construction-des-casitas.jpeg?resize=768%2C574&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/casafofo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Casa-Fofo-Construction-des-casitas.jpeg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nbsp-la-decoration-les-details-et-les-nuits-courtes\"><strong>\ud83c\udfa8<\/strong><strong> Decoration, details&#8230; and short nights<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From there, a new phase began.<br\/>The details <em>(but also the administration, but I&#8217;ll skip the details)<\/em>.<br\/>And honestly&#8230;
